My Thoughts: Sephora x Moschino Collab

Hear my thoughts on the Sephora x Moschino launch and collaboration. I'll be going in full depth about the whole collection!

In this post, I will be talking about my thoughts on the Sephora x Moschino collection that just recently launched. Sephora used the Moschino Bear, that was introduced in 2014 by designer Jeremy Scott (I believe), as inspiration for this 7 item collection that is to die for. If you are not familiar with the designer brand, the Moschino Bear is essentially the brand's image and is all over their clothes and accessories. The pop culture brand joined forces with one of the world's largest makeup company for the collaboration of the year! Hear my in depth thoughts about the whole collection and let's dive right in!

PACKAGING

You have to admit, even if you're not a packaging fanatic (like me), this is the CUTEST packaging ever. Out of all the things in the collection, I love the mini lip gloss set with the necklace. Jeffree Star mentioned that the necklace was actually metal and quite heavy, making it a bonus in my opinion. If it's designer and an accessory, I want it to be as boujee looking as possible, ya feel? I knew the bear wasn't going to be metal but I was thinking the other stuff that has that metal finish would be, I was wrong. It doesn't bother me too much, I was just expecting really expensive makeup with fancy, elaborate packaging. Despite that, packaging easily gets an 11/10 in my books, it's just too cute to reject whether it's metal or durable plastic.

PRICE

When I first saw this collection on Instagram, I thought the pricing of the products was going to be outrageous similar to other designer makeup brands, like YSL, Tom Ford, etc. A few others reasons I thought it was going to be so expensive was that the packaging was so elaborate and the whole collection was limited edition. However, I was shook at how reasonably priced it was, which made me concerned about the quality of the product inside. Once I watched some videos about the Sephora x Moschino Collab on YouTube, many claimed that the product itself was great for the price and outstanding in quality for something that is limited edition. Pricing gets an 11/10 in my books!

PRODUCT

As I mentioned, I did my research on YouTube to check out how the products in the collaboration would perform. I was personally surprised, the pricing was so reasonable which made me skeptical of the product inside. Shockingly, the shadows perform well, the highlight duo is pretty and natural, the lip glosses are pigmented, so on. Sephora and Moschino kept up with the warm palette trend with the Bear Palette and the Shopping Bag Palette. I did notice that some shades in the Bear Palette are similar to each other, but with a different undertone. That doesn't bother me too much, considering the undertone is different instead of one shade being slightly a bit darker than the other. They're better quality than I expected for a limited edition collection, I just wish the Bear Palette had some more variety in the warmer red-orangey shades or maybe some more pops of color. The brush set is cute but not practical for showcasing on you vanity. They're super cute and have some heftiness to them, but I am unsure if they are metal or heavy plastic. I personally would probably never use them, they're just so pretty and perfect and I could not bring myself to the point of use. Overall, the products in general throughout the collaboration gets an 8/10 for me.

LAUNCH DAY

This is where some tea gets spilt. Like hot, hot, hot, mouth burning hot tea. I've never seen a messier, more hostile launch day in awhile. If a brand is not organized on launch day, it looks REALLY bad. On August 11th, Sephora announced that they were pushing back their launch of the collab to the 18th after customers were ticked that they couldn't purchase anything online. Many woke up early to snag whatever they could from the super adorable and unique collection but were faced with frustration when the launch date was postponed. No one knows what happened or why it was pushed back, not even Jeremy Scott. Now let's fast forward to the week later, August 18th: The New Launch Day. The products launch, hooray, but they sell out quick. Supposedly, people who sign up for email notifications / reminders did not receive an email saying the Moschino x Sephora collection came out. By the time loyal Sephora members went online to purchase items from the collection, they were gone and customers got angry. Many took it to the review section on Sephora to ventilate their overgrowing frustration. I think it sold out quickly because the packaging sold itself. Sephora may of produced a limited quantity as a marketing technique to create a higher demand and make it look more "exclusive." It's a great marketing technique but it's not great on the consumer end because things like this happen.

Obviously, people were not pleased and supposedly, negative reviews were getting deleted by Sephora, but I cannot confirm that.

Launch day really reflects a brand in my opinion. Just because a website crashes does not mean the brand / company sucks, they cannot control how many people get on a website. However, it looks
bad when you push back a launch date, then don't announce the launch through email to loyal customers. I can understand their frustration but also can see the business end of why they could've potentially made limited quantities. However, I write my blog from a consumer's point of view and launch day gets a flopping 1/10.

OVERALL

I love the packaging! I mean, how could you hate super cute bear themed packaging?? The price for the product AND the packaging is so reasonable for the average consumer. The products were decent quality and performed very well for a limited edition, designer brand collaboration. Usually brands like to scam people into buying crappy quality products because they're limited edition, which really sucks. The Sephora x Moschino collection itself is fantastic. HOWEVER, the launch day(s) were a mess and people quickly grew annoyed that the collection was sold out and they didn't even know it launched. There was no time announced, adding to the confusion for some, making it first come, first serve. Overall, I give the collection a 7.5/10 with taking in all the factors from product, to packaging, to the actual launch.

Sephora vs Ulta: Which Do I Prefer?

Read about my input as to which I prefer and why! Chances are, if you live by a Sephora, you live by an Ulta.  The two stores are quite similar when it comes down to what they offer: a wide option of makeup brands that vary in price to tailor to your needs. However, if you've been in both store before, you notice the obvious differences. LOCATION Starting off with location, Sephora's are typically in a mall (or at least every one I've been in is) and it's lethal to my bank account. My Sephora is located right across from the Starbucks and the Chick-fil-a in the center of the mall and it stares at me every time I walk by, and of course I walk in. There's only one Sephora in the Oklahoma City Metro, making it very crowded. I try to avoid the magnetic pull of Sephora when it's the weekend because my feet are always getting stepped on by people or getting rolled over by a baby stroller. It's inconvenient in my opinion and bothers me during my shoppin

My Thoughts: Beauty Reviews in the Beauty Community

I'll be discussing what I think about makeup reviews within the beauty community and my advice for product research! Makeup is truly a wonderful thing because one product doesn't work out well for one person but is another person's "holy grail" product. Once that person has a response to a product, some will review them (like me) to an audience on social media on whether it was good or not.  People do this to create a rating balance for a product because real people  want to know if a product is worth it or not. What I mean by "rating balance" is the ability to review every feature of a product from poor to exceptional fairly and getting an average star rating of it. People want to know if the quality is good, if the pigmentation is there, if it's travel friendly, so on and so forth.  My current makeup collection. I've researched numerous of reviews before purchasing the products I've bought! I think for some time, a lot of p

My Thoughts: Too Faced

Hear my thoughts on whether I think Too Faced is overdone with some of their products or is overdue for some new products! Too Faced is a widely known for their child-like makeup with chocolately and other candy-like scents that take you back to the days you used clear anything flavored Lip Smackers gloss as a little girl. Too Faced swiftly became famous for it's Chocolate Soleil Bronzer, as they blended beautifully into the skin and gave you a sunkissed glow while smelling delicious. The rest is history. Now we reflect on the very successful brand in present day. Chocolate Bar Palettes, Chocolate Bon Bon Palette, Melted Chocolate Lipsticks, Sweet Peach Palette, you name a food and the palette will probably smell like it. Certainly their iconic scents have reeled in a lot of consumers to buy their products because they offer something more unique than the rest of the brands out there. But let's talk about the products. The original Chocolate Bar Palette dropped in
