My Thoughts: Huda Beauty Desert Dusk Eyeshadow Palette

Hear my thoughts on the new Huda Beauty Desert Dusk Palette. I'll be talking about everything from price to formula to performance!

THE PRODUCT ITSELF

This eyeshadow palette contains 18 shadows with 4 different formulas. Now she does cost an arm and a leg at a whopping $65 USD. The mattes are very pigmented and buttery. The color payoff is quite exceptional and it's very buildable. You can intensify these shadows or blur them down and achieve the type of blend you desire. The metallic shadows (especially when the brush it wet), they turn out gorgeous on the eyelids. For the duo-chrome toppers and the glitter shade, I recommend a glitter glue; maybe a wet brush for the duo-chrome shade, maybe. My suggestions for a glitter glue would be the NYX Glitter Primer (if you don't want to break the bank) or the Too Faced Glitter Primer.

Here's a provided list of all the shadows and their correlating formula...

Matte Shadows: Desert Sand, Musk, Eden, Amber, Oud, Amethyst, Saffron, and Blazing
Pressed Pearl Shadows: Blood Moon, Nefertiti, Royal, Cashmere, Angelic, and Turkish Delight
Duo-Chrome Shadow Toppers: Celestial, Twilight, and Retrograde
Pure Glitter Shadow: Cosmo

SWATCHES

Top Row Swatches
Second Row Swatches
Third Row Swatches
These swatch exceptionally well except the pure glitter shade, Cosmo, but that was expected. The color payoff of these shadows are amazing and the pigment is so intense when swatching with your finger. The Pressed Pearl (pretty much metallic) shades are smooth and pack a punch with the fingers, which can be an effective method of application on the eyes. Absolutely gorgeous. You might recognize these swatches from my Locked and Loaded Instagram from the other day (lol shameless plug).

PERFORMANCE

The mattes are exceptional, fantastic, and flat out amazing. A little goes a long way with the pigmentation of these shadows. As I mentioned in the beginning, you build the shadows up to intensify the color or blend them out to blur and smooth them out. I like to do a combination of both techniques in my crease for the smoothest blend. I then like to go into a Pressed Pearl Shadow and apply that with a wet brush or my finger on the lid. To add a little dimension, I like to go in with a topper shadow with a wet brush or a little bit of glitter glue. These shadows are super pigmented and very pretty. Definitely pasty girl friendly!

The addition of a decently sized mirror is new compared to it's
sister palette, the Rose Gold Palette

MY FAVORITE SHADES

Honestly, all the mattes are amazing; I love them all! Out of all the Pressed Pearl Shadows, I love Turkish Delight a lot because it's very unique and pigmented. I also really love Cashmere as a more natural colored shade for the lid. Of all the duo-chrome shades, it's pretty obvious, I am in love with the fan favorite shade Twilight. That shift from purple to blue is so gorgeous, no photo could do it justice. I don't really like Cosmo because if you don't own a glitter primer, you have to invest in getting one and this palette is already $65, I'M BROKE. Luckily, I got this palette for $31 thanks to the Sephora VIB sale and a $25 Sephora gift card.

OVERALL

If you don't have these shades already and you're eyeballing this palette, save up your coins and get it if you really want it. But if you already own shades like this in your collection, it's not really worth spending $65 USD. However, this is significantly better than the Rose Gold Palette when it comes down to shadows and color theme. Plus, this comes with a fancy, not-so-little mirror that the Rose Gold Palette didn't have. I like that Huda Kattan took in the criticisms (example: lacking a mirror..) of her debut eyeshadow palette (the Rose Gold Palette) and incorporated them into the Desert Dusk Palette. This is a nice step up from the previous palette. The formula of the shadows are on par, the variety of looks and shadows is great, and I really love packaging. If you love to collect makeup, this is an eye catching palette!

Sephora vs Ulta: Which Do I Prefer?

Read about my input as to which I prefer and why! Chances are, if you live by a Sephora, you live by an Ulta.  The two stores are quite similar when it comes down to what they offer: a wide option of makeup brands that vary in price to tailor to your needs. However, if you've been in both store before, you notice the obvious differences. LOCATION Starting off with location, Sephora's are typically in a mall (or at least every one I've been in is) and it's lethal to my bank account. My Sephora is located right across from the Starbucks and the Chick-fil-a in the center of the mall and it stares at me every time I walk by, and of course I walk in. There's only one Sephora in the Oklahoma City Metro, making it very crowded. I try to avoid the magnetic pull of Sephora when it's the weekend because my feet are always getting stepped on by people or getting rolled over by a baby stroller. It's inconvenient in my opinion and bothers me during my shoppin

My Thoughts: Beauty Reviews in the Beauty Community

I'll be discussing what I think about makeup reviews within the beauty community and my advice for product research! Makeup is truly a wonderful thing because one product doesn't work out well for one person but is another person's "holy grail" product. Once that person has a response to a product, some will review them (like me) to an audience on social media on whether it was good or not.  People do this to create a rating balance for a product because real people  want to know if a product is worth it or not. What I mean by "rating balance" is the ability to review every feature of a product from poor to exceptional fairly and getting an average star rating of it. People want to know if the quality is good, if the pigmentation is there, if it's travel friendly, so on and so forth.  My current makeup collection. I've researched numerous of reviews before purchasing the products I've bought! I think for some time, a lot of p

My Thoughts: Too Faced

Hear my thoughts on whether I think Too Faced is overdone with some of their products or is overdue for some new products! Too Faced is a widely known for their child-like makeup with chocolately and other candy-like scents that take you back to the days you used clear anything flavored Lip Smackers gloss as a little girl. Too Faced swiftly became famous for it's Chocolate Soleil Bronzer, as they blended beautifully into the skin and gave you a sunkissed glow while smelling delicious. The rest is history. Now we reflect on the very successful brand in present day. Chocolate Bar Palettes, Chocolate Bon Bon Palette, Melted Chocolate Lipsticks, Sweet Peach Palette, you name a food and the palette will probably smell like it. Certainly their iconic scents have reeled in a lot of consumers to buy their products because they offer something more unique than the rest of the brands out there. But let's talk about the products. The original Chocolate Bar Palette dropped in
