Tips and Tricks: How To Achieve The "No-Makeup Makeup Look"

I'll be sharing some of my absolute favorite tips and tricks on how to achieve the best natural look for ANY occasion!

My own little natural look ♡
Back to school season is back for a lot of us and frankly, we aren't always going to go to class in full glam. Maybe you just want a super natural, flawless finish look that isn't too out there but you can't nail it just yet. Well in this post, I'll be sharing some of my all time favorite tips and tricks to get that enhances your natural features. So let's dive right in!

no-makeup makeup look: Another term to describe a natural look that really enhances someone's natural beauty

TIP #1: TAKING CARE OF YOUR SKIN / HYDRATE

I know it's so cliche, but taking care of your skin is key to a natural, no-makeup makeup look. For me, I hydrate my skin like crazy by drinking tons of water. I purchased a 30 oz Yeti tumbler cup to take to school and my goal is to drink it all before the end of the school day. It's been like night and day for my skin and my lips! I also try to avoid lots of sodium. It's simple biology, salt pulls water out of your cells, aka osmosis (the more you know). You don't need to completely cut out sodium from your diet but try to avoid lots of soda and all that.

Though drinking water makes a difference and might be all that's needed for some, others need a more intense skin care routine. More acne prone / irritated skin should use more tea tree based skin care, as it can reach deep into the skin with its antibacterial properties and unclogs your pores while disinfecting! People with more sensitive, but acne prone skin, can still use tea tree oil but will have to dilute it or use a more diluted version. Using too much tea tree oil can dry out the skin and cause your skin to overproduce your natural oils, worsening your acne.

For those that want to get rid of acne scars, Vitamin E oil works wonders. My mother got thyroid surgery and her doctor recommended Vitamin E oil to fade out the scar; you can't even tell she got surgery! Vitamin E helps boost the repairing of tissue and lightens scarring / dark spots on the skin. I have the capsule pills that you can cut out and extract the oils inside and I just apply it to the skin. You can also just purchase the oil in stores if you don't want to cut open capsules.

For dryer skin, aloe vera is a great natural way to rehydrate the skin. The more natural it is, the better! Aloe vera naturally moisturizes the skin, which is why you are recommended to put it on after you get a sunburnt. Avocado masks / sheet masks also are a good natural way to give yourself a nice boost of hydration.

TIP #2: USING A PRIMER THAT'S RIGHT FOR YOUR SKIN

There are so many unique complexions that each have their own unique skin type. Primer is the foundation for your foundation. It evens out your skin for a flawless finish, especially for a no-makeup makeup look. Figuring out your skin type is pretty important throughout this blog post and find the primer for you does wonders. If you have enlarged pores or just want to conceal your pores, a pore filling primer (like Benefit's Porefessional) is great for you. Maybe your skin is a little drier or you want a hydrated look to your skin, primers with coconut (like the Too Faced Hangover Primer or the Marc Jacobs Coconut Primer) do a good job, but any hydrating primer that works for you is fantastic. If you have redness, a color correcting green primer may work for you, if you have oily skin, oil free primers might suit you. However you want your skin to look, dewy or matte, there are PLENTY of primers out there that can work well for you. I have combination skin, some days it's super oily, others it's super dry. I like to use the Too Faced Hangover Primer on my drier days, but I use it on my oily days with a very drying foundation (Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation) to balance it out. The right primer will give your skin that nice glow that you've desired for, or the matte finish your natural skin lacks, so on, so forth. I cannot stress how important the right primer is for you for that really nice natural look.

TIP #3: FINDING THE COVERAGE YOU DESIRE

We all have our preferred type of coverage when applying foundation / concealer. For me personally, I like a medium coverage foundation (because I don't have issues with acne or discoloration) with a full coverage concealer for my horrible under eye. Others may need heavy duty, full coverage, some may want a BB cream and concealer. You can just smack on some concealer and call it look if you want. Makeup has no rules! Research / ask for recommendations on what type of *insert coverage* foundation or concealer you prefer. It's seriously amazing finding the right coverage for you. I alway thought I needed full coverage but it dried out my skin, so I switched to a medium coverage foundation; life changing. You always want to feel and rock the best you, however you want you to be.

TIP #4: LESS IS MORE

I know you want to pack on that full coverage Shape Tape concealer but seriously, less is more. Applying too much of any face product is never really a good thing. Too much foundation or concealer can look cakey and unnatural for a no-makeup makeup look. A smaller amount can really make a difference, plus you won't be using as much product!

TIP #5: BRONZE, DON'T CONTOUR

When achieving the no-makeup makeup look, you don't want to contour as harshly. Instead, use a nice bronzer to warm up your face, as well as contour. I personally use bronzer underneath the cheekbones where you normally contour, forehead, jaw, and the sides of my neck. Doing this will speed up the application of your makeup because you don't have to contour afterwards, but gives off a similar effect.

TIP #6: GO FOR A SIMPLE EYELOOK

One of my all time holy grails is the Tartelette in Bloom because I use it every time for a natural makeup type of day. The palette offers a variety of cool tones neutrals, warm toned neutrals, and some neutral pinks. Using the palette for example, I like to apply "Jetsetter" and "Smarty Pants" in the crease and outer 3rd, "Flower Child" on half of the lid, and "Funny Girl" on the inner corner. This every look matches everything, it's super simple but so flattering. You can even add a pop of color on the lower lash line to give it a little flare, but it does take away a bit of the natural look.

TIP #7: TIGHTLINING THE LASHES / LASH LINE

Crayon-like eyeliners for the lash line is a miracle worker. I like to use the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil to work into the lash line. Black or brown eyeliners on the upper lash line will add to the illusion of fuller lashes, even before adding mascara! I like to apply white eyeliner on the lower lash line to make my blue / grey eyes pop, but also make me look more awake. Tightlining can also shape your eyes however you want. If you have smaller, more narrow eyes, apply white eyeliner all the way through your lower lash line. If you have wider / larger eyes, black eyeliner on the outer third of your lower lash line will help narrow them out.

TIP #8: WORK IT

Confidence is key when wearing a no-makeup makeup look! You want to not just look good, but feel even better. You wear the makeup, the makeup does not wear you, so work that natural look. Makeup or no makeup, we still look beautiful inside and out and you should feel good about yourself. Even if you're not into the natural glam, tip #8 applies to all makeup looks! Look great, feel great, and rock whatever look you want!

Sephora vs Ulta: Which Do I Prefer?

Read about my input as to which I prefer and why! Chances are, if you live by a Sephora, you live by an Ulta.  The two stores are quite similar when it comes down to what they offer: a wide option of makeup brands that vary in price to tailor to your needs. However, if you've been in both store before, you notice the obvious differences. LOCATION Starting off with location, Sephora's are typically in a mall (or at least every one I've been in is) and it's lethal to my bank account. My Sephora is located right across from the Starbucks and the Chick-fil-a in the center of the mall and it stares at me every time I walk by, and of course I walk in. There's only one Sephora in the Oklahoma City Metro, making it very crowded. I try to avoid the magnetic pull of Sephora when it's the weekend because my feet are always getting stepped on by people or getting rolled over by a baby stroller. It's inconvenient in my opinion and bothers me during my shoppin

Tips and Tricks: DON'T THROW OUT YOUR MASCARA WANDS

Seriously, don't. Your empty mascara wands can help out in a big way! See how you can help out animals in need. Shoutout to Twitter for showing me this honestly. Back in March of 2017, a Facebook page named "Love What Matters" posted about why we shouldn't throw out our old mascara wands, but instead donate them! This is amazing program is genius and who doesn't love to help out animals? Appalachian Wildlife Refuge started a program called Wands for Wildlife  that helps local wildlife get cleaned up. Essentially you can take old mascara tubes that have expired, gone dry, or have completely run out of, clean them up, and send them to the address they’ve provided. The benefits of getting the wands clean is for the Appalachian Wildlife Refuge to clean larvae and eggs out of animal’s fur. The video of the little ducky getting brushed with the mascara wand is so CUTE , it makes me want to cry, but like happy tears. The people at Appalachian Wildlife R

My Thoughts: Beauty Reviews in the Beauty Community

I'll be discussing what I think about makeup reviews within the beauty community and my advice for product research! Makeup is truly a wonderful thing because one product doesn't work out well for one person but is another person's "holy grail" product. Once that person has a response to a product, some will review them (like me) to an audience on social media on whether it was good or not.  People do this to create a rating balance for a product because real people  want to know if a product is worth it or not. What I mean by "rating balance" is the ability to review every feature of a product from poor to exceptional fairly and getting an average star rating of it. People want to know if the quality is good, if the pigmentation is there, if it's travel friendly, so on and so forth.  My current makeup collection. I've researched numerous of reviews before purchasing the products I've bought! I think for some time, a lot of p
